Lululemon started a new partnership with Canada’s Olympic Committee to provide athletes with the gear for the Olympic games to come.
It was an amazing opportunity to work closely with Olympic athletes and learn new construction techniques.
The Challenge
Design a new set of luggage for the Canadian Olympic Team. I was the head designer for a new set of two luggage pieces for Canada’s Olympic Team.
The Process
I focused on the athlete’s journey from home to the hotel. As part of the findings and the brief these were 3 musts to capture in the design: iconic, 4 wheels and good weight distribution.
During the sketching process I explored the idea of using the “iconic” Lululemon yoga mat corner as a functional pocket.
Due to the COVID-19 outbreak and the inability to travel to the factory, I decided to create a soft-cover prototype in-house for this project. This approach proved to be highly resourceful in validating the proportions.
After validating the proportions, I created detailed technical drawings.
The Outcome
This project was particularly challenging due to COVID-19 restrictions. These difficulties highlighted the importance of effective communication and understanding the vendor's capabilities.
