In the wake of the pandemic, people began to shift their habits and explore new activities. Hiking and outdoor adventures gained significant popularity.
Inspired by my passion for the outdoors and this trend I designed an active backpack. A versatile pack for both short hikes and urban commutes.
CHALLENGE
Design an active backpack that can allow the guest to go on a short hike as well as on an active commute through the city.
THE PROCESS
I started looking at what key objects people bring on a short hike. A hike that is less than 5 hours. That gave me an overall idea of the size and what needs to cover.
I took inspiration from well renown brands in the outdoor industry as well as some design details from other fashion fields that inspired me.
Crafting small paper models gave me the opportunity to test the construction and proportions of the bag.
After fine-tuning the pattern to closely match the intended design, I scaled it up and transferred it into fabric.
Once I validated the proportions of the mockup I crafted a detailed technical drawing with measurements and construction details.
OUTCOME
Throughout the design process of creating a run vest, I focused on understanding the unique needs the user while addressing key issues such as fit, weight, and functionality.
